Opening the afternoon concert is the brilliant Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich with its brass fanfares ringing out an exciting theme – equally well known is the Farandole by Georges Bizet based on The March of the Kings.
To complement these pieces, BSW have included the world premiere of All That Glistens by British composer Rob Wiffin with its tour-de-force fast woodwind writing, and the beautiful In the Bleak Midwinter by Holst. The Christmas Overture by Nigel Hess is regularly played on Classic FM every Christmas and features all your favourite seasonal carols.
