On Sunday afternoon Birmingham Symphonic Winds celebrated their 30th anniversary in a special gala concert at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham.
A capacity audience thoroughly enjoyed a varied and diverse programme including works by Julie Giroux, Derek Bourgeois, John Rutter & Kenneth Hesketh. We were joined by Oliver Janes, principal clarinet at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performing the world premiere of our latest commission by Martin Ellerby - 'Shooting Star'.
BSW also performed pieces by Guy Woolfenden and Rob Wiffin that we had recently played at the NCBF Festival UK for which we received a Platinum award. Concluding the programme, Edward Gregson’s Sword and the Crown was a breath-taking pageant of medieval life. This epic work written for Shakespeare’s Plantagenet plays was narrated with panache by Michael Collie, BBC Midlands Today presenter.
We would dearly like to thank our sponsors, all our friends for their valuable support & everyone that attended this wonderful event!
